Back to Roots

I recently got inspired by Karla Powell's entry to the Illamasqua awards (which you can see below) and decided to make a cute illustration based on it. I really felt that Karla's creation had a distinctly owlish feel, so I just went with it! Karla is always trekking back and forth from London to the Midlands, what better way to travel than by owl.

Karla actually went on to win her category, so a massive congratulations is in order! I'm so happy that she won, and I felt that she really deserved to. I loved the overall feel, and the fact that this girl looked like a 'character' when she was completed. Anyway, I just thought it was awesome and I hope you all like it too!

I'll be starting the blogger/animal portraits now, and I suppose this is my first one really. I was thinking of doing all of them in squares like this one, what do you think?

  7. This is fantastic. It is such a sweet idea and the detailing of the owl is pretty impressive. I always think owls are really cute for things like illustrations and jewellery, that sort of thing.

  12. Karla's make-up is amazing! I love your illustration, it has a bit of a Sandra Dieckmann feel to it for me (I think it's possibly the colours or maybe just the owl). Love the square format too xx
